Apple's website reportedly hinted that Siri AI may come to full-size HomePods

Clues spotted on Apple's website suggest the company's Siri AI could eventually reach existing full-size HomePods — but it may just as easily have been a mistake. Only the new HomePod mini 2 has been announced with Siri AI support so far, and even there it is coming later.

What's happening

According to 9to5Mac, Apple introduced the HomePod mini 2 on October 13, 2026, and its headline feature is support for Siri AI. Internally, 9to5Mac reports, the S5 chip is replaced by an S10 chip, which enables the smarter assistant. However, Siri AI is not available on the speaker at launch: MacRumors reports it is set to arrive "in a future software update", and Apple has not given a timeframe. Full Siri AI support also depends on pairing the HomePod with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad.

The full-size HomePod was not updated in this announcement. But 9to5Mac says a leaker identified only as "pdfu" noticed two things on Apple's website pointing to existing full-size HomePods gaining Siri AI. First, the images used appeared to show a colour glow matching that of the HomePod mini 2. Second, the alternative text for one image described a "multi-colored Siri AI glow on top".

MacRumors notes that the relevant alt text appears on the full-sized HomePod image at the bottom of the HomePod order page, and that, per the leaker, Apple has since replaced the images concerned. That replacement, MacRumors says, gives little clue as to whether this was simply an error or a feature Apple is not ready to announce. 9to5Mac makes the same point: it notes Apple "does like to hold back some software features from older devices" to encourage upgrades, but is also pushing Siri AI hard.

Any support would likely be limited to second-generation models. 9to5Mac observes that Apple is not requiring Apple TV owners to buy new hardware for Siri AI — support is coming to second-generation Apple TV 4K models and later — which could hint at the same approach for the full-size HomePod 2. MacRumors adds that Bloomberg's Mark Gurman previously reported Apple planned to update the full-size HomePod "eventually". Apple has not confirmed any of this.

Who's affected

  • Owners of the second-generation full-size HomePod, who may or may not receive Siri AI based on today's unconfirmed clues.
  • Owners of first-generation full-size HomePods, who likely would not be included if support is limited to newer hardware.
  • Buyers of the new HomePod mini 2, who have Siri AI confirmed but must wait for a future software update, and need a compatible Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad.

This is not a bug or an outage. Nothing is broken and there is no fix to apply; it is a question of whether a future feature will reach older hardware.

What to do

  • Do not upgrade your HomePod yet on the strength of a leak. Nothing is confirmed by Apple.
  • Keep your HomePod and iPhone or iPad up to date, since Siri AI features generally depend on current software and, for personal context, a paired Apple Intelligence device.
  • Watch Apple's official announcements rather than alt text on a web page for when or whether Siri AI reaches the full-size HomePod.
  • Treat this as unconfirmed. The clues could have been a publishing error, and the situation may change.
